Message from ‘Unpacking Femme’ organising group

Thank you to everyone who was part of 'Unpacking Femme' - each person who presented, and all who participated and contributed - femmes, and those who stand alongside.

Sydney Femme Guild needs to take immediate steps to change how we organise and what we organise about.

In particular, we must confront and stop actions (or inaction) that contribute to, or collude with, cultural appropriation and racism, and perpetuate hurt, exclusion and divisiveness.

We are sorry that we have been complicit in maintaining power structures and messages that exclude Femmes of Colour, and that this caused deep distress at the conference today.

We will act on this as a priority.  The Femme Guild logo has been taken down, and there will be more information to follow.

We are part of a wider queer community and will seek to work in connection with others, and to actively call on others to join us in this work.  This will be an open process, and a long-term commitment.

From the Sydney Femme Guild Conference Organising Group.

Femme Guild events happening this week!

Queer Screen vs. Femme Guild Film Night

Come along to a femme film night at the newly renovated GINGERS (Supper Club) for a special Femme Guild screening of Mommy Is Coming.

Set in the sexual melting pot of Berlin, this romantic/erotic comedy of errors confronts the last lesbian taboo: Mommy. When haughty femme Dylan receives a visit from her mother, her butch lover Claudia/Claude, the bellhop at Mom's hotel finds her/him self in all sorts of unexpected scenarios.

Starring a bevvy of Queer porn beauties including Jiz Lee, MOMMY IS COMING is the latest offering from director Cheryl Dunye (The Watermelon Woman, The Owls). It debuted at the 2012 Berlin International Film Festival and collected the 2012 GOOD FOR HER Feminist Porn Award.

Femme Guild Members, Femmes and Femme Friends Welcome

Lucky door prize to be won and special FG drink & snack specials on the night!

PLEASE NOTE this film contains explicit sex scenes
Strictly 18+ event, I.D may be required

Gold Coin Donation

Wednesday Dec 5, 7pm for 7.30pm start

Gingers, Oxford Hotel
Oxford St, Darlinghurst

*We regret to inform that at present Gingers is not wheelchair accessible. With prior notice, if you are up for some adventure, some gorgeous muscle marys can be arranged to carry you across the rocky terrain like Cleopatra in her palanquin, ascending towards kinky queer paradise.

Femme Guild Picnic

Saturday Dec 8, 3-6pm

Enmore Park, Enmore

End of Year Picnic for Femmes and Friends

As the silly season approaches take some time for a ‘fresh air cure’ to spend an afternoon in the park with the Femme Guild as an end of year gathering.

Come enjoy a cool beverage or a scone in the park with femmes and femme-loving people on a Saturday afternoon ... we will provide some rugs and a few treats – please bring something to share (eg food or drinks or games) and your own picnicking, drinks & lounging supplies.

We will set up on the park side opposite to the children's playground on the Llewellyn St side under the big trees. It can be quite sunny at that time of day so a shady hat or parasol is clever accessorising.

If you are new to Femme Guild, feel welcome to contact one of us so we can look out for you when you arrive and introduce you to others.

The Annette Kellerman pool is also in this park (there's an entry fee to the pool if you'd like to swim). The pool has a café/kiosk and accessible public toilets available to both pool users and to park users.

Femme Guild is a queer feminist collective promoting solidarity, visibility and femme pride in both lgbtiq communities and wider communities.

Park Social is an opportunity for femme-focussed socialising and connecting. Come and also find about our "Unpacking Femme" conference in Feb and other events.

WEATHER: Send out your best vibes for a perfect day - but if is it wet and cancellation is likely, we will post here at 1pm on the day, and will generate a Facebook message to all 'attendees'.
